What is a mala?

The mala's beads help practitioners focus on the mantra's meaning or sound instead of counting repetitions.

In Mahayana Buddhism, a mala, known as a Japa mala, is a string of beads or knots used to count mantras or the Buddha's name while meditating or praying.

About Kaiya and Dharma Gems

Hello! I’m Kaiya, originally from Houston, Texas, now residing on the beautiful island of Galveston. My journey with Dharma Gems is deeply personal and inspired by cherished family traditions and spiritual exploration.

My passion for jewelry making was sparked by the memories of my grandmothers, who crafted beautiful pieces with wire and gemstones. Although I never met my maternal grandmother, her legacy of creating jewelry has reconnected me with a practice she found both soothing and meaningful.

My paternal grandmother, Nana, was a significant influence in my life, guiding me towards spiritual and mental growth through various Art of Living practices. This path led me to find solace in yoga and meditation.

Currently, I find myself immersed in the Mahayana Tradition within the Nyingma tradition.

It is the oldest of the four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism, often traced back to the 8th century when the teachings were brought to Tibet by the Indian master Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche.

Through Dharma Gems, I aim to offer malas that support and enhance your meditation practice.

Dharma Gems operates on a donation-based, sliding-scale model, allowing you to adjust the offering based on your means.

Thank you for exploring meditation with us in your own unique way.

Kindly,

Kaiya of Dharma Gems
